World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items are a method to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it can increase the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and increase other stats.
Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a certain amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats are increased in value. This is the sum of all its upgraded benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to how many perks have to be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.
The level of an item is a popular measure of power, and is visible on all item tooltips. It also serves to determine a gating condition when waiting for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is restricted to an lower level). The average item level is listed on the character sheet.
Using the item level can help players evaluate the strength of equipment when they decide to buy or sell. It's an indicator of the damage and its quality. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when evaluating a vendor's inventory.
On your PC, you can see the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the complete description of the item, as well as its ilvl. It can also be located by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.
There are a variety of theories on how the level of an item is determined. One theory states that the item level is calculated by formulas that determine the worth of the stats of an item really are. item upgrade considers that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in the sockets increase the item's value. This can result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is typically close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.
This isn't the only factor that affects the value of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped can change its stats. For instance, it could increase the item's haste or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.
Item Stats
Stats on an item are a significant component of what determines the value of an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats of a weapon are increased by the weapon's stat mods that are in turn boosted by the player's level.
Upgrades to an item may increase the stats of an item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. A grey or white item, for example, will only be upgraded once and items that has rare tiers can be upgraded several times at more expensive costs.
Affixes are another way to alter the stats of an item. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and are available in all shapes and sizes. Affixes are used to give items extra damage or special abilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs) or to differentiate them by naming them.
All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window, and pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold as well as items, which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other options for rerolling.
Players can choose to upgrade an item by specific stats, or reroll the affixes. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However each item will have at least one stat within the same range, unless it's an exclusive item, or an item that has a God Roll from a raid boss.
Another thing that can be modified by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or choosing which stats to increase. However, as with the base equipment, this would need to be performed on a per-item basis and the interface for comparing items would not display all the possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.
Item Luck
A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the odds of item discoveries as well as the properties that appear on loot drops and the intensity of those properties. It does not, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade their gear earlier in the game. This is particularly useful in early game runs because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.
Luck can also boost the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chances that increase with each level of the item. They can also be enhanced by using anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, armor, and shields can spawn or be crafted with the Luck property, with a default value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to increase the luck of the item up to 140.
Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any skill that is able to deal damage by 5percent. These items can be found in the shop or created by using the appropriate ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items are a costly process and not all upgrades will be successful. However, there are item upgrading that allow players to boost their chance of success or stop themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.
The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of completing the upgrade successfully, and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased as much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%..
The success of an item can be affected by the luck of that item. Each item has an average success rate of 25 percent, and each item with Luck increases this chance by five percent.
Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects may be obstructed by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
